(really looking forward to watching this particular movies)..
- the curious case of benjamin button
released in the states last december 25th — i’m still not quite sure if the film is already being shown in cinemas here in davao (foreign movies are aired somewhat really late here as you may well see), “the curious case of benjamin button” is an adaptation of the 1921 short story of the same name, written by f. scott fitzgerald (author of the ever famous “the great gatsby“)..
it follows the story of a man (benjamin button) born under very unusual circumstances — a baby boy with the physical appearance and limitations of an 86-year-old man (he lives life in reverse, becoming younger with each passing year until he achieves real infancy by the time he dies)..
2. confessions of a shopaholic
incidentally, the second film (i’m practically excited to get my eyes on this one) is also based on a literary piece — sophie kinsella’s novel about 25-year-old rebecca bloomwood who can’t seem to get enough of her shopping addiction.. and how she tries (and oftentimes fail) to fix things and make ends meet — credit card bills piling up, hunting for part-time jobs, cutting up her normal expenditures (which of course doesn’t work on a shopaholic) and falling in love.. i have read the book already but then, well, i would just love to take a look at rebecca’s fashion statement.. plus the various boutiques exclusive for the elite individuals that she shops at.. wahaha..
shopping spree galore.. January 9, 2009Posted by raincrystal in fun, reviews.

well.. i must admit i am but one of the millions of girls out there who can’t seem to get enough of the shopping fever.. the question is, who doesn’t want shopping anyway? perhaps for guys, the said thing is considered as an obligation — or sometimes just one of our many needs (they go shopping since they have to buy something they need).. girls on the other hand don’t perceive it as if it is simply a task that has to be done (we don’t get tired scouring various shops for hours and hours in the lookout for great finds).. rather, we find it a really pleasant activity to unwind and de-stress.. and of course, a good reason to update our wardrobe and bring nice little new products back home..
with the advent of the computer era, it seems as though everything we ever need are made accessible with the use of the net.. we contact old buddies from old schools, we meet and greet with various kinds of people, we do our research projects, we check out current news — all in the net actually.. and well, what else do we have? of course, we can now do our shopping at home.. yeah, you got it right buddies.. the good thing is, we only have to sit in front of our computer screens (but we are really already hopping from one shop to another) and then we can purchase various quality finds.. just a few days ago, i came across this particular site that luckily offers the shopper practically everything (it’s everything really!) ranging from accessories to clothes to electronics to health and beauty to kitchen appliances to toys — even wedding essentials..
with online shopping, you don’t really need to go through the hassles of travelling to the malls and spending precious hours looking for the things you have to purchase (especially when the site you are visiting can give you every available store featured in the net by crawling like google).. this means that you can actually compare and check products from various stores without having to go there personally.. thus, saving loads of time, effort, and money.. so, so, what do we say to this? let’s shop and shop and shop ’till we drop.. *grins*
on insurance.. January 7, 2009Posted by raincrystal in reviews, stuff.

remember the old saying “prevention is better than cure — preparedness is better than hope“? well, now that i think about it, it actually makes sense.. consider this: it seems like another regular day — you go to the office for work, you eat lunch, you contact various clients.. until you get home later to find out that your house had burned down to ashes.. what to do next? the thing is, if you had your home insured early on, well, you won’t have to worry too much (you can actually get compensations from the insurance company to help you start again).. on the other hand, if the thought of insurance (or at least the thought of participating in insurance forums) never crossed your mind, then you really have a problem, buddy..
as we all know, insurance protects us against the many dangers to life and property.. if a person has got his life insured, it is assured that his family will get enough money on his death.. in a situation when we never really have the slightest hints as to what could possibly happen to us in the next ticking of the clock, it is naturally a wise decision to set up insurances..
and well, if you still have second thoughts and you feel you must have to know every bit of information regarding the said thing, you might want to check out and join insurance forums online — guaranteed to help you with your every doubt.. and another good thing is that aside from the fact that you learn all about insurance in the discussions, membership is actually free!
so, how good a deal could that be and what have you got to lose? obviously nothing — besides the questions in your mind that have readily been answered..
no more secrets under your shoes — just those happy feet.. January 7, 2009Posted by raincrystal in general info, reviews.

being a little too preoccupied with our individual lives, do we even remember to take some time pampering the most abused part of our bodies — the feet? well, a few of us do manage to have foot spa sessions at least once a month (but, but, what do we do with our nails?)..
in case you have not the slightest idea regarding nail problems, guess it’s high time you start checking your toes regularly — if not, you might just end up having the shock attack after finding out that you actually have nail fungus.. fungal infection of the nails (commonly known as onychomycosis) constitutes about a half of all nail abnormalities (a serious case alright).. caused by tiny organisms thriving in wet areas or humid places, the protein protecting our nails will eventually be destroyed leading to the spread of the bacteria..
tsk tsk.. having nail fungus is really one heck of a problem — don’t tell me you will forever hide your feet inside your shoes just to prevent others from seeing your unsightly nails? and how in the world can you slip your feet on those cool summer slippers or those classy open-toed pumps?
but hey, if you happen to be among those with the nail problem secret, there’s no more reason now to fret (you can actually say goodbye to those bad nail fungi in just a short matter of time).. with advances in the field of medicine, nail fungus treatments come in a whole range of packages but perhaps the most important questions would be, how effective are they? and how fast can they eliminate the foot problem?
luckily, there is one site in the net for quality (and i mean quality) nail and toe fungus treatments.. aside from the fact that you can easily purchase the featured products, the said site tackles all the information you need to know regarding onychomycosis — from the causes to the symptoms to the proper treatment.. yey! now, we can kick off the start of the year dancing and tapping with our officially happy feet.. do check out the site buddies (it’s very helpful)..
in the game of the name.. December 18, 2008Posted by raincrystal in fun, just anything under the sun, stuff.
words — well, sometimes you can’t really be too serious with them..
just to have some little thoughts to ponder upon (and maybe to give a few laughs in between), i have managed to collect some really interesting phrases — from business establishments trying out rather unique and even quirky names to stand out in the crowd up to the trying hard manufacturers imitating the names of well-known brands.. guess it’s time to examine the etymology of names..
- harry cutter — name of a certain barber shop along matina crossing (from harry potter)
- mary d’ potter — local comedy sitcom with hints of magic and fantasy (from harry potter also)
- lord of the wings — really creative name for a chicken stand (lord of the rings, obviously)
- lord of pranings — print on a shirt.. roughly translated in english, “pranings” means “paranoid”.. thus, lord of paranoids.. (lord of the rings again)
- hayaianas, havananas, and hawaianas — cheap imitations of the famous flip flop brand, havaianas..
- odidos — name of a backpack (pathetic copy of the trademark “adidas”)
- abibas — baby sneakers (another pathetic copy of “adidas”)
- ipood — shirt print, complete with the silhouette of a lady sitting on a toilet bowl (from ipod)
- banana cue — another cheap imitation of the flip flop brand, banana peel.. “banana cue” is a snack treat of deep-fried bananas glazed with sugar..
- jfc — a chicken house (sounds like the fastfood chain “kfc”)
- kini rogers — also a chicken house (localized “kenny roger’s roasters”)
- samsong — a somewhat funny imitation of the cellphone samsung omnia..
- chikadora the exploiter — a segment on a local late night sitcom (from dora the explorer)
- spanish bob — another segment from the said comedy sitcom (spongebob)
- pake mo — print on a shirt.. “in english, none of your business”.. (made to have the trademark font of pokemon)
- martyr nyebera — a song by kamikazee.. (from local singer martin nievera of course..
and, uh, you got that right — the title was supposed to be the other way around.. like, “in the name of the game”..

twilight is the new cool.. December 16, 2008Posted by raincrystal in movies.

the movie is superb — what about the book?
i actually had second thoughts on watching the movie version of “twilight” by stephenie meyer without reading the book first.. as there are lots of film adaptations on highly acclaimed novels which unfortunately fail to do justice to their literary counterparts, i have long made up my mind to simply stick to the original texts to get my own dose of satisfying entertainment fix.. but since it seemed that i had a hopeless case of getting my hands on the much talked about novel, i was compelled to just watch “twilight” before the said movie stops airing on the cinemas..
thank goodness, the film version proved to be really superb — there are even talks that it is the highest-grossing box office hit since “titanic”.. unlike the production of “a walk to remember” by nicholas sparks which appeared to be lousy, lousy, and lousy (very much far from the novel version in terms of quality), “twilight” is just great (great, and great).. i mean, from the cast to the script to the setting — the movie deserves an almost perfect rating.. well, i must commend the production crew for such an awesome depiction of the place — a lot of trees, lush forests, the dreary atmosphere (just perfect for vampires, werewolves, and mayhem).. the instant i saw forks on the big screen, i automatically knew that the staff did a really good job down to the most minute details.. now, let’s not get into the story itself for i may rant endlessly and not stop typing this post..
as for the book, touted as the best fiction series since the release of “harry potter”, i still have to check if stephenie meyer was able to sustain a seemingly simple plot in a thick number of pages (even coming up with four books at that!) and whether or not she has indeed equaled j. k. rowling in terms of mastery and style..

music junkie cravings.. December 15, 2008Posted by raincrystal in music.
recently, i was finally able to get my hands on my very own mp4 (at long last).. well, it was actually a present from my boyfriend bubu — he wanted to buy one for himself, and eventually decided to buy one for me too (yey yey!).. the purchase included 100 free songs to be downloaded in our music players but since the gadgets can store up to 300 songs, bubu couldn’t seem to get enough..
being a certified music lover of some sort (yeah, bubu is one music junkie), i agreed to help him look for sites in the net where one can actually purchase audio files.. lucky enough, there is indeed a site made exclusively for music lovers around the globe (bubu is now another constant visitor, checking new rap and hiphop beats).. and since these days, he is somewhat tired of all the mainstream songs playing over and over in the radio stations, he has made it a point to find a range of beats (instrumental beats to be exact) to occupy the song slots in his mp4.. not only can he experience an enjoyable music fare, he can also use those instrumental beats to help him develop what could be his own song composition in the near future..
to all music junkies out there, you now have something you could always look forward to the next time you surf the net — make sure you do try some of their package deals.. ^-^

probably one of the most common denominators i share with my boyfriend is the fact that we are both certified food monsters (gobble gobble gobble).. thus, we have decided to come up with a team (exclusively composed of bubu and myself) — the food explorers.. the main goal of this partnership is of course to continuously scour the whole of davao city in search for yummy dishes and the best quality places to dine in.. and well, what is a name if there is no logo? so we have also taken care of that (and with a little help from an automobile company, that is).. so food explorers, here we go go go.. (gobble gobble gobble)..
